The book is about the now forgotten Direct Current locomotives of the Indian Railways and is a homage to their contributions to the Railways and to the nation as a whole. While it is generally believed that diesel locomotives replaced steam engines and they in turn are now being replaced by electric engine, it would be a surprise to some to know that the DC electric engines started running in India in the 1920s and that too at speeds of above 100 Kms. These engines were the heroes of the Western ghats and it is here where they ruled till the 1990s.
