A cold snap turns Tree and Harris into reluctant climate change refugees, so they head west to become farmworkers for a few months. It's a hazardous journey on bad roads with several unexpected changes in plans, but with the persistence of drivers with free car charging and lots of free time, they make their way all the way to the Pacific Ocean. On their trip they make many new friends as well as discovering a clone factory, geo-engineered night skies, farm domes, Las Vegas, behavior modifying cash registers, and of course, California swimming pools.
Spiritually refreshed by their virtuous labor, comradery and healthy diets, the two return home newly thankful for their comfortable home life, and with a better understanding of how very strange the world has become in the future.
