David Bonner is a sixteen year old student in Paris. A road accident sees him admitted to hospital and he is unable to get away before the arrival of the victorious Germans. He has by then lost contact with his French army officer father and has no idea whether he is still alive or dead. His mother is in England, David has no ID papers and the Gestapo are now asking questions about him. He falls in with the Resistance and meets Marie, a beautiful French girl his own age. She joins him and his friend Henri in a dangerous attempt to escape by road and finally in a desperate attempt to reach England, with the Germans searching for them and danger around every corner. You will have to restrain yourself from turning to the last pages to find out in advance whether or not they are successful.
