Funny, scary and serving those who read it with the nightmare of A.I. gone wild taken straight from the headlines, Day Of The A.I. is a satirically entertaining addition to the wakeup calls needed for safeguards as artificial intelligence permeates our reality. Each "act" opens with quotes from a real warning made by Stuart Russell, University of California Computer Science Professor, in his testimony on the subject of A.I. regulation before the United States Senate on July 25, 2023.
But this is no dry run-through. All the human characters in the story have plans in motion that are unexpectedly derailed by rapid A.I. expansion, forcing them into the main plotline. The early chapters open with overviews of A.I. progress as certain machines become not only "supermanagers'' of key industries but celebrities in their own right as well. At some point the top supermanagers start competing among themselves. Once a supermanager named ANU solves the world's hunger crisis, people feel great about giving A.I. ever more responsibility, with ominous and absurd consequences down the road
Lots of fun, laughs and informative, timely food for thought all in one.
