Dawn of Sorrow

Sunlight has little effect when temperatures plummet to -300 degrees. Everything is frozen. The wind stabs and the air is too cold to breathe. Winter...the worst season of them all. At least for Nivlek it was. It was how he experienced life when he lost his home to the cloaked soldiers; when he lost her. Now, years later, he lives with his ill father in a society governed by principals instead of laws, where the only way to analyze a person's loyalty is by constantly monitoring the very heart condition of people. Keep people in fear of revealing the nature of their hearts and they'd stay loyal. Eselex has governed that system down on Acacia for millennia. A broken planet that owes its existence to, Eselex; the organization responsible for maintaining the planet's natural systems and resources after it suffered a cosmic catastrophe. That's how the ancient texts explained it. Nivlek and his two best friends have differing views as to whether the information is factual or not. Things get weird after Nivlek awakes with a burning brand mark on his chest; along with the appearance of a woman cloaked in black. She sends him a warning and he believes the mystery figure to be a person who has been forgotten by the memory of all. Suddenly he finds himself fighting for the lives of his friends against creatures he never knew existed. If that weren't enough the cloaked soldiers reappear. Nivlek finds himself at the center of an old conflict that he is asked to help remedy. In doing so he is determined to uncover the truth about a forgotten friend and her role with the cloaked soldiers. At the cusp of it all he must face the darkness of his past while trying to bring an end to something that may be eternal. The greatest wars ever fought are those that spring from within.
