Finally! A Reality Show I'd LOVE to see!

Darwin's Race is the 2nd action/adventure novel I've read just recently dealing with a Reality Show (the first being, 'Fragment'--also quite good)...the first being somewhat more similar in story (overall) with Jurassic Park and this one, a slam-bang trip through the world's tallest peaks with a Supernatural Twist that really takes the story to another level. Either the author is an avid climber, or has done the right thing by doing his research, because it is painfully obvious how much attention to detail has been written into the story. Even without the 'Twist' to the story, Darwin's Race is a great action story worth your time--however, by adding this extra twist to the story, well, let's just say it made the entertainment factor ratchet up exponentially (IMO). Honestly, before really getting into the story, I was skeptical whether or not a story revolving around mountain climbing could seriously keep me rivited enough to want to continue, no matter WHAT twist was included...however, let me be crystal clear here: Brian Ullman has happily proved me WRONG in too many ways to count. Take your average adventure tale and merge it with a Saturn V rocket and I think you'll have an idea of how much action you have to look forward to. What I really enjoyed was the amount of pure tension created while I was pitched dangerously on the side of one of the highest mountains on the planet in ice-cold weather (well, it certainly FELT like I was right there). How much did I enjoy Darwin's Race? I think the best thing I can say is this: I VERY much look forward to whatever Mr. Ullman decides to produce next. It's obvious his talent for writing ought to merit him a full-time career telling stories. Let's hope that the public catches on and affords him this opportunity, one that will benefit ALL of us...and the sooner the better! Kudos Brian! Congrats and THANK YOU!

Highly recommend!

I highly recommend Darwin's Race. It was very entertaining, and kept me on the edge of my seat. Brian is a great storyteller.

An absolute must read!

An incredible debut. I had read about this book through an e-mail newsletter by Mr. Ullmann's mentor and fellow author Steve Alten. So far Mr. Alten has not steered me wrong on any recommendations. This novel is stellar! Fast-paced, all-out action, great characters to root for and against. What more can you ask for? I can't wait for the next one.

A great read!

Darwin's Race has all the ingredients I love in a thriller: Fun characters, a hero we can root for, nasty villians, a fine chick...and a mythological monster. Most important, the author did the research and knows mountaineering, which makes the story plausible and smooth. A big thumbs up. --Steve Alten, NY Times best-selling author of MEG & The Loch.

fast-paced and exciting trekking up the impenetrable Kuk Sur

Reality television producer Terrance Carlton believes the ratings are everything. Thus he is euphoric with the concept of two teams consisting of six kick butt experienced mountain climbers on each competing to reach the summit of unconquered 19,492 feet Kuk Sur in the Tibetan Himalayas; the first person to reach the top of the inaccessible peak with the world's biggest and deepest canyon Tsangpo Gorge to add to the improbability of success receives $2 million. Millionaire Preston Child agrees to finance the event on the condition he and his daughter Malika are participants though the pair refuse to explain their rationale for climbing the mountain. Veteran mountaineer Conner Michaels has a personal reason to climb, he seeks the lost corpse of his brother Tucker who died on Kuk Sur six years ago when the siblings were one day from attaining the summit. Others have agendas mostly involving fame, fortune or both. Carleton arranges for each person to hoist a camera on their shoulder so the audience can see everything live. Between the treacherous mountain, the horrific climate, the deadly gorge, and apparently a yeti, no one on the mountain is safe. However, the most dangerous element is the humans especially those hidden in the mists. The climb up the mountain is fast-paced and exciting from the onset and never slows down as unforgiving nature and even less sympathetic humans ballet for the grand prize. Instead of being fully developed characters, each climber has a personal agenda that mostly defines who they are; this works as the most complete "player" is the main antagonist, the mountain. Fans will enjoy trekking up the impenetrable Kuk Sur alongside the participants of DARWIN'S RACE. Harriet Klausner
