Love and romance can mean everything to young kids no matter where they are. It doesn't matter whether they're surrounded by virtual realities, massive games, or in the middle of real space exploration. Unfortunately, politics is hell. It can kill hopes and dreams. Logic can fly and war can come calling, but even so, there's always love. Axel Stahl and Helen Kenostaphos are willing to do anything to remain together, no matter the cost. The two teens are on opposite sides of a struggle, with 17 billion people feeling a population burn on Earth vs the Ring, a 41 thousand kilometer space station encircling it. The Ring is a hard gatekeeper. And if that wasn't enough, the only viable children in the Solar System come from Earth. No children can come to term in Space. Axel was the first one to be born, with much difficulty, but rather than being the hope of all Spacers and the dream of every Earther wanting to found a dynasty elsewhere, he wound up unable to use most of the high tech than any of his peers enjoy. The trade-off is devastating. We could trade off survivability in Space for torturing our youth or never be able to have new young. It may be important to everyone else, but neither Axel nor his friends care about any of that. They just want to be left alone. They don't want to be sucked into anything more than their own pursuit of happiness. Unfortunately, Axel and Helen have no choice in the matter. They may be star-crossed lovers with a war on the way, but they're self-aware enough not to want to follow in other's tragedies. Can they possibly find a way out? Is love enough?
