SYNOPSISDarkened Yellow is based on the aftermath of the Biafra versus Nigeria civil war. The story is centered on a woman, Nneoma, who lost everything during the war and rose from the ashes and scars of war after she remarried Chief Linus Mba, a very wealthy man who later died of stroke. Like Nneoma, Linus Mba also lost everything to the war. His properties were forcefully taken from him and the government added to the pain when it listened to Obafemi Awolowo's advice to give every Biafran adult a paltry twenty pounds to start over with their lives, irrespective of the money they had in their banks before and during the war. Nneoma, the main character of the story, will continue to live with the agony of losing her children - Nnaji, Nkem and Ifeoma, to the war, and her husband, Obi, to Nigerian soldiers during their attempted escape from the North to the East of Nigeria. She will endure this pain while raising Chief Linus's son - Obinakem, who was birthed by Nneoma's maiden whom she had persuaded to marry Chief, since she couldn't give him a child. After many years, Nneoma will move on with her life but struggle with the slithering memories of her past that won't stop haunting her. Through the help of her tailoring apprentices - Aisha, Amina, Kudirat and Omar, she would later return to Kano where she had lived with her first husband, Obi. She will then be able to fulfill most of her youthful dreams through Obinakem, her son. Many years later, Nkem, the son Nneoma thought was dead during the war would come back after his release from prison. The story gives a clue about hushed and yet unresolved issues surrounding the war and how it affects the people of the Eastern Region, and Nigeria at large. Nneoma would attempt to do more than thrive, so that her dreams and aspirations of being a notable fashion-designer dashed by the war will not prevent her from the life that exists after the war.
