When a ransom exchange turns deadly in this thrilling mystery from bestselling author Anne Perry, Commander William Monk faces an unthinkable possibility: betrayal by his own men. NAMED ONE OF THE... This description may be from another edition of this product.
The last mystery for William Monk (#24) went out with style, more engaging than some of the books written in the years prior to it. A rescue of a kidnapped woman ends in disaster, and it appears one of Monk's men is a betrayer. The struggle for Monk is quite moving, trying to decide who is guilty and the hurt involved very touching. The story moved at a good pace, and the other characters were well developed. Hester and Scruff don't play as big roles in this story. I've read and collected every one of the Monk books beginning with The Face of a Stranger and have found them so rewarding. No one quite wrote the Victorian mystery as well as Anne Perry.
