Dark Summer Wine is a stream-of-consciousness novel set on the modern day French Riviera in the town of Villefranche-sur-Mer. The ghost of the dead Gestapo Colonel Vondax Kimmel haunts a ch?teau by the azure Mediterranean Sea, which is now rented out as a holiday house to the rich. It was the place that used to be his interrogation headquarters during the days of the Third Reich, until his death in 1945 and his soul has been bound to it. Kimmel takes the form of a wandering skeleton, crazed by a mystic form of alcoholism, an unquenchable thirst for something called "bloodwine" as he plans a new wave of Nazi genocide against the living, from the dead.
