Dark sides is a young adult historical fiction novel about Steven Moore coming of age during the American Civil War. Steven lives on the Moore plantation outside Summerville South Carolina. Steven's mother is the Moore's cook and slave while Steven's father is white. Steven is treated as a slave and he struggles with his own identity and who he is. The book is written from the first person from stevens viewpoint and records his journey on the Moore Plantation to his escape to freedom.
