The personal poetry of Walt Barger
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 23 years ago
Dark Sails In The Twilight is a compendium of the personal poetry of Walt Barger who was born in southeastern Tennessee, took college courses in creative writing, married, retired after 36 years in a mechanical contracting business, and never in all that time lost his passion for writing and reciting his poetry. Dark Sails In The Twilight: The sun stroked the clouds/with blazon blue streaked/with saffron yellow;/dark sails in the twilight//waddled silently on silver/tips of wave and trough;/poetic sparks glisten in twilight/of age sneaking from//moss dark and wet womb/lying dormant in semi-demise/from eons of infinite desires/that only youth dare dream.//Like a sailor without compass/the words flow in direction/of a land unexplored by/awe struck ornamental intelligence.//What a ride this boat of words/has given to dark sails that/gleefully glitter in twilight blowing/defiantly against disappearing space.

Beyond Words

Walt Barger has done with Dark Sails in the Twilight what most writers strive to do, he has found the most vivacious words to artistically capture his emotions. His poety expresses the pain, joy, failure, and triumph that many of us either run away from or dash towards. This book, in addition to providing a better understanding of the author, is the classic example of what happens when feelings and thoughts are properly conveyed on paper.Dark Sails in the Twilight takes the reader on a roller coaster ride of emotions pausing just long enough for the interpreter to enjoy the thrill!
Dark Sails

When "Dark Sails in the Twilight" arrived I quickly opened it intending to flip through it and put it aside for leisurely reading later. However, after reading just one or two or the poems, I realized that I would not be able to do that as the artistic choice of words and poetic phrasing were so brilliant that I could not put it down, and so I sat and read it all.I am very impressed with the poet's talent that lay dormant for so long. God's timing is never wrong, and when, it seems, that he developed His gifts of humility, sensitivity and insight, He allowed him the grace of putting them on paper for other's fulfillment as well as his own.I hope he continues writing as I look forward to his future works.
