All's Fair In Love

The Count of Sarconne Philippe de Villone fell in love at first sight with Alex. He saved her from a very bad injury. Then he found out that the Hal the man she was engaged to was a two timing skunk. He was behind Alex when she heard Hal explain to a guest that he hated to hurt Alex with the knowledge that he was in love with said guest. If dueling was still allowed Philippe would have called Hal out. But as it was he asked Alex to his room, and put her in a comprising position by getting her drunk, then throwing her well know green shoes in the corner. When she woke up her engagement to Hal was off and she was now engaged to Philippe. He took her to France and to his Castle, she was bewildered, but she found a friend in Philippe's brother Gaston. Only to have it nipped in the but by Philippe who saw his brother was really in love with Alex. And Gaston's vitch of a wife saw it too. Philippe lead Alex to believe the marriage was to be in name only. But as soon as she was in his castle well he took advantage of her and she gave into him. Alex didn't know she was just as in love with Philippe because he was of such a different world than she was. By the time Alex realized she loved Philippe she had fallen and lost the baby she had just found out she was pregnant with. Philippe lived a nightmare when Alex didn't want anything to do with him after her fall. And he almost became humble. The end of the book made up for the middle of the book. But I didn't like the fact that Philippe fooled Alex than all but raped her.

Dark Mater by Charlotte Lamb is one of best romance novels ever written

From the back cover: "Marry in Haste, repent at leisure" Alex's eyes darkened with pain as she recalled the old adage. It was true, so horribly true. She married Philippe on a wild impulse, to save herself from being humiliated by the man she thought she loved. And it was too late now to wish she had done otherwise. She was Philippe's wife, the Comtesse de Sorconne, mistress of his ancient castle in France. She was the recipient of everything Phillippe's wealth and passion could give her. Everything, Alex thought bitterly, but his love. My View: This was a major winner. I so did not want this book to end. It is a 10 star book. On a walk one around a cliff, one morning before starting work at the hotel where her fiancé is the manager, our heroine meets the hero. He runs over to her, and the two take a roll down the side of the cliff but they are okay. The hero falls in love with her on site but his cold manner is a turnoff for the heroine. Furthermore, she has a fiancé who she loves very much. After catching her cheating fiancé leaving the hotel room of a guest, the hero devises a plan to help the heroine save face. He tells her that she should act as if she has fallen in love with him and break her engagement to her to timing fiancé. He then sweeps her off to London and marries her while she is still devastated over her heartbreak. He fails to tell her that he is French royalty and takes her to France to live in his castle-home. Upon arriving at her new home she meets her brother in law who is in a very pathetic marriage. The brother-in-law was so starved for affection that he falls in love with our heroine in little time. The hero is very jealous of this relationship and I will let you read the book to find out the rest. Things you may-may not like about this book: 1. Hero tells heroine on their wedding night, "if you don't let me I will take you". 2. Hero's brother slaps his wife. 3. Hero takes over the life of the heroine. 4. Two brothers in love with the same woman
