There are nine personality traits that psychologists most commonly identify with those who do well with Dark Psychology for personal use or as a subject of study throughout their personal and private lives. Sometimes known as the Traits of Malevolence, these character markers make up the foundations of darker personalities and understanding them can help with identifying their use around you, intentional or unknown.

Having just one of the traits identifiable is not enough for someone to solidly be labeled a dark personality. Manipulation, psychopathy and narcissism form the base elements of what's known in psychological circles as the Dark Triad. The Dark Triad makes the foundation for most Dark Psychology study as the trilogy of traits are the three most common characteristics displayed by those who excel within the realm of Dark Psychology.
