Alice Soh, a young Chinese kindergarten teacher with dreams of someday finding marital happiness, shares her life with her English boyfriend, Dave. He is a former computer programmer whose life now spirals through a haze of alcohol and drugs. Their lives take a drastic turn when Dave is caught with a significant amount of marijuana, intended for the patrons of Duxton Road bars. The Singapore High Court sentences him to death for drug trafficking, leaving him with no apparent escape from the hangman's noose in Changi Gaol. There is no chance of reprieve, no hope of intervention from his home country.
As Dave awaits his fate, Alice wonders if there might be a miraculous escape. She believes she might have discovered a way, or rather someone who can reveal the path. However, this potential salvation comes at a personal cost. Can a condemned man truly walk through the walls of his prison? Alice is prepared to pay the price to find out.
