Dare To Dance is the story of Karen, an ordinary woman with two adult children, who finds herself confronted by unexpected life twists and the obstacles that follow. The sudden death of her husband plummets Karen into a well of grief and bitterness. After 21 years of marriage, her bereavement is complicated by a shocking revelation that floods her mind with unanswerable questions. Who was she in that marriage, and who is she now? Has her whole life been an elaborate lie? Dare To Dance demonstrates the separate but connected ways a woman and her family find their own truths.
I rarely read a book twice but this is one that will remain on my bookshelf to be read again and again. Dare to Dance is easy to read although the characters are complicated, just like real life. I really got wrapped up in the comprehensive tale of a family in crisis and their day to day lives as they try to move forward. Hoorah for the two authors who were able to write this together. I can't even imagine how I would co-author a book with such flawless narrative. I look forward to your next book. I hope there will be a sequel to this one at some time.

I read this book in just two evenings. I loved everything about it, the style of the authors, the characters, the twists and development of the interaction between them. I loved the beginning as well as the ending. It left me with a positive feeling that members of one family can stay connected while finding their own way. I loved it yet hated to see it conclude. I do hope we will see more from Truswell and Kling.
Dare To Dance - No False Steps

Vivid, wrenching, triumphant, Dare to Dance is the kind of novel I like best, a story of transformation. Karen could be you, me or anyone to whom her personal worst has just happened. She very nearly lets herself be crushed and embittered by her losses and sense of betrayal. She struggles fiercely to find new perspective on her past, her relationships, and her future. The story she tells herself about her life will never be the same again. The plot of Dare to Dance moves through settings as beautifully lush as the cover, taking us from classroom to hospital room to country club golf course to support group to elegant home. Each setting glows with detail. A touch of the uncanny sparks the atmosphere, moving us out of ordinary time and place into the extraordinary reality in which profound change occurs. The characters are intense, believable, and ultimately likeable. The dialog, especially in the arguments which are inevitable in this suffering family, rings powerful, unfettered, and heartfelt. The authors have me rooting for Karen and her family from the first page right to the last powerful paragraph.

At an already volatile time in helping her adult children find their independence while craving the old closeness, Karen is widowed and thrown into a world she never could have imagined. The way she finds her place, her rhythm, her re-configured family circle, even a new dance, is a journey many women will recognize.
