Numerous young individuals aspire to effect change but often find themselves uncertain about where to begin. My life took a transformative turn when I made the simple decision to alter the destinies of 200 widows and 28 orphans in a rural village in Kwara State, Nigeria through a community development service project during my NYSC year. This decision changed my life irrevocably, and in this book, I aim to illuminate the potency of a single, resolute dream.
Within these pages, I share my personal journey, a narrative intertwined with lessons on how you, too, can instigate positive change within your community. The NYSC year, if maximized effectively, can serve as the pivotal period that unlocks your future. Many young minds grapple with questions such as: "I've identified an issue in my community, but how can I bring about change? How do I secure funds? Will my proposed solution be embraced by the community?"
In recounting my story, I detail how I raised 2 million naira, a substantial amount in 2013, for my project. I describe the ethical dilemmas I faced, the temptations to compromise my morals for financial gain, the physical challenges encountered like being beaten up for not sharing some of the money, and how I ultimately overcame these obstacles. The book, comprising 10 chapters, delves into the significant milestones and struggles I confronted while pursuing my objectives. Each chapter concludes with step-by-step lessons, offering a roadmap for you to follow in your pursuit of making a meaningful impact in your community.
