Daphne Rennels writes reviews for a travel magazine, "The Oasis." She goes all over the world to give her inspiring insights to tropical locations and new resorts. She has the perfect life, a great job, and a wonderful relationship, that is, until she comes home early to surprise her live-in boyfriend, Noah. It was their third anniversary after all. She was all set to yell, "Surprise." When she noticed a red shirt on the floor, that didn't belong to her. The surprise was on her because Noah wasn't alone. Daphne decides to get her evidence and quietly leaves.
The next day, she packed her belongings while Noah was at work, leaving the photos she took on his pillow. She called her grandmother and asked if she could stay at the beach house on Emerald Isle in North Carolina. A place where she spent many summers growing up. She goes next door to get the key from the neighbor that lived there for as long as Daphne could remember, only to find her nemesis, Doug. Her older brother's friend and tormentor, standing in the doorway. He was now taking care of his grandfather, who suffered from Alzheimer's.
