Perfect Transitional Book

This book was a find -- I needed something that would interest my 1st Grade son. It had to be something that would stretch him a little, make him practice both sight words and unfamiliar words, but not seem babyish. This book was perfect. It had a little mystery (what kind of egg was it?) lots of predictions (ostrich, alligator, duck) and a cute solution (it's a lizard!) It flowed nicely, had recognizable vocabulary with a few new, longer words thrown in, and provided clues for new words in the pictures. Very very nice book to help my son transition from the super-easy readers to something with a little more content.

Good for any child!

This story is great - it has a nice rhythm, has some repetition in it, and the child reading definitely wants to get to the end to find out what's in the egg! My only reason for not giving five stars, is that the Spanish translation is too close to the English translation. Perhaps the English should appear above the pictures, and the Spanish at the bottom (or vice versa.) My [...], who reads in both Spanish and English, kept getting frustrated because he was reading the same thing twice - not realizing that the Spanish part was just a translation, not a new part of the story line. For my Spanish classes, I enjoyed reading this to ages 6 and up. The students could get the idea from context as well as the full color pictures. My older classes, who focus a bit on grammar learned to recognize the future tense (I will help you: te ayudaré) and the preterite (He said/ She said: Dijo) as well as animal names, body parts, and some animal sounds in Spanish. You could make a complete lesson focused on this book, but even simply as a supplement, I have been quite pleased! I recommend it! Sra. Gose Spanish Teacher and Author Flip Flop Spanish

Mystery Egg

This is a cute beginning to read book with a story that isn't choppy but refreshingly flows like a real story should.

Great book!

The book was in GREAT condition! I used it for an oviparous animal lesson with my Kindergarteners, and it was just the perfect book. The children were trying to guess what animal might be in Daniel's egg. It went very well.

Kindergarten favorite

My students love this book! They can read it in both Spanish and English with minimal help. My native Spanish speakers love helping their native English speaking friends with pronunciation. Excellent book for "teachable moment science;" birds aren't the only animals who hatch from eggs
