Dancing with the Waves: Sunrise on the Water

The sun rises on Volume II of Dancing with the Waves with the creation of a partnership over an idea that was started by a small band of Rotarians and picked up by a group of business people in the Brazosport area. The results was a magnificent community achievement and a permanent home for the Center for the Arts and Sciences. Great memories are like gold. They are bright and shiny moments in life and should be preserved. Writing them has allowed me to document traveling through the waterways of life with family and friends. The stories tell how a little boy of three ventured out of the house one morning to a bright sunny day, caught his first fish and found a hobby that has lasted over seventy-five years. My writings are about kinfolk and fishing pals who joined together, taught me the values of work along with the fantastic sport of fishing and turned a small boy into a man fisherman. Living on the river bank as a young kid, learning how to fool big old yellow mouth trout from an old man in a row boat, being taught the skills of catching bait shrimp, and deckhanding by a river captain are a few experiences in my travels on Mother Earth's waterways as a young lad. Stories of a young man's backbreaking battles with monsters of the deep; tarpon, kingfish, ling, red snapper and warsaw in the serene waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Later unexpected success with king salmon in the Pacific and lobster in the Atlantic are just a few golden memories. Many things have changed through the years, so I sprinkle in some history of the old towns of Velasco and Freeport, the Brazos River that was the home of so many pioneer boat captains, and the vessels they busted waves aboard. They created a multitude of amazing fishermen's stories including a lost and found golden wedding band out in the Gulf of Mexico.
