Dancing on the Glass Ceiling : Tap into Your True Strengths,

"Dancing on the Glass Ceiling" is one of the most unique guides available for working women. It's a great read and an even better practical resource. In my experience, many women struggle to find a balance between their values, their femininity, and their drive to succeed in the workplace (thankfully, having read the book I know for sure it's not just me!) Deemer and Fredericks approach these issues from a unique perspective: being a woman in business is a strength, not a weakness! Some titles geared towards working women emphasize the "male" way of doing business, as if to familiarize women with how men think when they're at work. They are great guides for anyone interested in the politics of business. "Dancing on the Glass Ceiling" is somewhat different in that it explores how women can benefit from their femininity in the workplace: e.g. how women's unique communication and managerial skills can be harnessed for success. To my knowledge, "Dancing on the Glass Ceiling" is special in this respect - I haven't seen any other titles that would so broadly pull together issues of women's work, their values, and their goals. As a working woman, I found it liberating to read how I could incorporate my femininity into who I am at the work place. I would highly recommend this title for any woman who is interested in advancing her career and "staying true to herself."

A Must-Read for Any Working Woman!

The great thing about this book is that it's chock-full of examples of women who've succeeded in business by being WOMEN. I received it as a gift from a friend after I mentioned I was at a crossroads in my career, and I was amazed at how on-target it was as far as recognizing the special challenges we women face...and the particular strengths we have.In a friendly, straightforward style, it helps women tap into how we can get ahead...WITHOUT acting like men. I especially liked the step-by-step exercises, such as one that helps you make a "mind map" to identify your goals/priorities (v. helpful in finding what you REALLY want to achieve in your career).Women do have a special way of interacting that's based less on heirarchy and more in an interactive style of communicating. I loved how this book recognized that, and instead of apologizing for it, showed how it can be USED as a way to better relate to co-workers, get along with bosses, and motivate employees. I can't recommend it enough for any woman who has found herself stuck in a job that isn't as fulfilling as she'd like it to be, or for someone who's on her way up but finds herself languishing just below "the glass ceiling."

Highly useful for women in business!

A highly useful must read for women in business! The authors are discussing subjects that are truly empowering for women in business. If all women in middle management read this book we would have many more female CEOs out there! This book addresses the fact that women have innate talents that are extremely instrumental in being effective leaders but that many women have almost unknowingly focused on being more like men in business (because that is mostly what they have been around) and that many women have unfortunately ignored important natural talents. The book gives great "how to do it yourself work" in all sections. There are also highly interesting examples of why women are mostly in middle management and how you can break that barrier in a balanced and fulfilling way. You will find plenty of inspiring examples of women at the top and women well on their way.The section on networking (and expanding your career connections) is amazing! It's not the networking you hear of in regular women's groups - but it's what CEOs have been doing forever (which is also how they got to be CEOs).In my opinion, this book will help make some great women leaders.
