Book Overview

The gripping psychological suspense novel from the bestselling author of APPLE TREE YARD, also a hit BBC series starring Emily Watson

A man dies a week after rewriting his will. In it, he has left everything he owns to a woman he has known for only three weeks. Confused with her newfound inheritance, Bet investigates Peter's past and discovers that her ex-lover was not all that he seemed...

In a crumbling office block, another woman has a different sort of ghost to confront. Iris runs her own business but strange things keep happening. Her phone rings. Somebody taps at her door. But there's no one there. In the basement of the office, something unpleasant is lurking ...

What connects these two women and can they ever escape it?

PRAISE FOR LOUISE DOUGHTY:

'Dance With Me is a book dotted with vivid observational set pieces, cunningly slotted together...Doughty is a good writer, deft with observational details...This book does dance with you. It holds you, leads you, and twirls you about.' LYNNE TRUSS, SUNDAY TIMES

'Louise Doughty writes about people who don't usually get written about...every bit as skilled as her contemporaries, her writing has a pessimistic edge which makes her books all the funnier. Dance With Me is a painfully accurate record of mating rituals and dating nightmares' INDEPENDENT

'A thriller, a bit of a ghost story, and a love story. It has pace, style, mystery, excitement' EVENING STANDARD

Dance With Me Spins

Promiscuous Felicity has fallen in lust with Peter. Suddenly, Peter is killed. In a matter of days, Felicity, whose relationship with Peter was based upon three weeks of great sex, finds herself the beneficiary of Peter's worldly goods, the origins of which are cloaked in mystery. Sandwiched between lust and money is plain, possessive Iris, the victim of Peter's unfaithfulness. Louise Doughty propels the reader through a plot that is entertaining yet difficult to grasp. The first quarter of "Dance with Me" reads like a mystery. In the second quarter the reader is led to believe that this is a ghost story. By the third quarter the reader is certain that this book is a psychological thriller. "Dance with Me" proves in the last quarter to be something entirely singular...a narrative with a fragile twist. Louise Doughty has a wicked sense of humor that spins the reader into a story that is constructed on several levels. It is elegantly written and told from the perspective of two very different yet very similar women. If you enjoy a clever plot, revel in a wicked sense of fun, and crave a story with some depth, then try "Dance with Me".
