The sun was shining bright as the young girls and boys made their way down the leafy lane to the back of the studios. Most of the mothers who accompanied them never could work out why the children chose this way to ballet lessons, rather than parking in the main road in front of the building itself. After listening to one mother complaining about their way to the ballet, one girl was overheard saying to another, "It's simple really, and the old folks don't understand. This lane is full of sweet smells and you can see birds in the bushes and sometimes even a nest. It's so peaceful from our usual life of school and then dance every day and night. It's just nice."To the two police officers it wasn't. Detective Inspector Raymond Harper and Sergeant Elizabeth Bryant May have barely met on their first day in their new positions when the desk sergeant alerts them to a 999 call that sounds like murder.
