Damn Cat

Carter Ferris is a screenwriter in Los Angeles, California. On the day before his wife is scheduled to have her wisdom teeth removed, one of their cats - Buttercup, a beautiful Persian Himalayan - runs away from home. The next morning, the adventure begins. Maggie Ferris is overly emotional from her painful surgery - hopped up on Vicodin and red wine - crying for Carter to find their cat. So off he goes, meeting a host of surly characters, each with their own story about the cat, but none with any answers as to where the cat is. Finally, Carter meets Eddy Buick - Eddy with a "Y" - a self-proclaimed pet rescuer, who gives the cat to a gangbanger who works at Pet Co. with his girlfriend. After several absurd and insulting conversations, the whole thing ends up in an altercation in the Pet Co. parking lot with guns drawn. A real Wild West showdown. The police explode onto the scene and diffuse the situation, but still no cat. After the altercation, Carter encounters a hippie dude selling baby Himalayans on the side of the road. He buys a kitten and heads home to find that Buttercup has returned. All in a day's work for this Hollywood writer, but at least he's got a new story.
