Dallebrook House: A Jimmy Rattigan Mystery

Detective Inspector James Rattigan formerly of Scotland Yard, is finding it irksome in adjusting to a life of retirement, and welcomes any opportunity to relieve his boredom, by solving crimes. James Rattigan is a distinguished looking man who is tall, and with a lean body that concealed surprising strength.
At the age of fifty-six, Jimmy's handsome looks and devil may care demeanour, still attracts attention from women of all ages. Following the maxim that clothes make the man, Jimmy dresses smartly, in the belief that it makes an impression on anyone whom he interviews, particularly when in the process of solving crimes. He has a fanciful notion that a well tailored suit, topped off with a trilby and overcoat, goes a long way towards commanding a degree of grudging respect from villains.
Jimmy had been one of Scotland Yard's most formidable detectives, and it wasn't only because he had solved more crimes than many of his peers. But he had been successful with cases that had been dismissed by some detectives as unsolvable.
In reality, it all boiled down to the way in which Jimmy's mind works. Whenever he investigates a case he has formed the habit of never disregarding any evidence, in the first instance, however bizarre or unlikely it seemed. If a case has been a frustrating one for Scotland Yard and their detectives are absolutely stumped they call upon Jimmy Rattigan that oddball detective who could always spot evidence, even when it appeared that there wasn't any to be found.
When asked by colleagues how he solves such difficult crimes, Jimmy replies, somewhat nonchalantly, "It's just a matter of knowing when the illogical becomes logical. In other words, there is more than one kind of logic to apply when attempting to solve a crime."
