"Ardent Memories" is the second in a series of novelizations on the 1980s "Dallas" TV series. The books come from the Soaps & Serials imprint of Pioneer Communications Network, which also did similar novelizations of TV's "Guiding Light," "Days of Our Lives" and "Dallas" spinoff "Knots Landing," among others. There are at least 14 books in the "Dallas" series. Unlike the other books in the series, this one covers just one "Dallas" episode instead of two: the second season's "Old Acquaintance." Maynard Anderson is cornered by his wife and forced to give up his mistress, Jenna Wade (played by Morgan Fairchild, not Priscilla Presley, in this episode). Maynard turns to J.R. for help, and J.R. has just the perfect usage for Jenna. He arranges for his brother Bobby and Jenna to accidentally "bump into" each other. Jenna asks Bobby for help finding a home in the wake of Maynard leaving her. Bobby (who's been increasingly frustrated by his new job at Ewing Oil and J.R.'s obvious attempts to exclude him) spends all day and night with Jenna, helping her and her daughter Charlie move into a new place. Pam is upset. Bobby introduces Pam to Jenna to help diffuse some tension, but J.R. is right behind Jenna, egging her on with wild tales of Bobby's "disastrous" marriage and Pam's "temper." Jenna pours on the charm with Bobby, even implying that Charlie is his daughter, though she had denied it to him earlier (and this book outlines the physical reality of why Charlie is not Bobby's daughter). While all of this is going on, J.R. is trying to lure Willie Joe Garr and Jeb Ames into a risky panhandle deal (with them taking the bulk of the risk, of course). But to do that, J.R. must convince them, with a fake codicil to Jock's will, that the oil-rich Southfork Forty can be drilled upon Jock's death. Unique for this book is a little bit of explanation about how the various Ewing family members see and treat the Southfork servants. For the Jenna Wade character, this book gives you more of a picture and explanation of her as a self-involved spoiled former oil heiress, consumed only with her own wants and needs and ready to rip up Bobby's marriage in a second. The book carries that theme throughout, something you don't quite get from watching it on TV.
