In TV shows, movies and commercials, dads are often portrayed as bumbling, barely competent and worst of all, irrelevant. But in years of working with at-risk teens and their families, Bob Hazleton... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I thought the book was excellent. The author used real life cases that are easy to identify with. As a Dad that has raised and released the brood I found that maybe I did not do as bad a job as I thought. I bought copies for my two sons, two nephews and son in law who are all Dads now.

Dads Matter did an incredible job of capturing the true importance of Dads! Mr. Hazleton used his own experiences as a father, and experience of others to tell the whole world that Dads really do matter! A combination of funny and serious, laughs and tears, made up an amazing story that everyone should take the time to read. All too often people forget that our lives are made up of choices, and these choices directly affect the rest of our lives, and the lives of others. Mr. Hazleton's book showed that when men make the choice to be the kind of dad they are; lives are changed forever, sometimes for good and sometimes not. This book was an inspiration for anyone who reads it, not just dads!

Dads Matter

Dads Matter is a fresh look at the relationships we have with our dads. Bob has provided a number of experiences from a variety of different people, mostly men, but not all. I found the book enlightening.... some parts brought me to tears. Other stories, especially those about Bob's experiences with himself and his family members was downright laugh-out-loud funny. Knowing the Hazleton family for almost thirty years now, I must admit my initial reason for picking up the book was looking for references to me! Instead I was engulfed in the stories. It was interesting to read Rick's story (my husband), and I felt a closeness to those stories whose authors I know. Bob did a great job of incorporating the many aspects of a dad's life and their importance in life. Dads do matter.
A brilliant take on Dads and parenting in general
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 16 years ago
I devoured this book in just a few sittings -a wonderful call to new action and new thought, from the simple "don't call you kids demeaning names" to the profound "what kind of dad do you want to BE?". I was inspired, challenged and often provoked to remember how the simple things can be the most profound, and I'm a mom! Reading this book was a wonderful opportunity to take a fresh look at my own parenting skills, and to revisit the profound impact of my own father in my own life. I laughed and I cried, and I bought more copies for friends.
