When was the last time you read a book to your child that began: "My Dad is terrific. Everyone in my house thinks he's a great guy."? For me, the answer was never. Until now.Lynette Samuel, author, wife, and mother of three, has written a children's book that I found irresistible for a surprising reason--its benevolent treatment of dads.I guess I had become so used to the dad being the punching bag in stories, that I'd forgotten how good it feels to be appreciated as a father. I'm sure I got as much (if not more) out of this book than the kids did.I tested it first on my three children (ages 10, 12, and 14). I thought the book was a little young for them, but decided to try it anyway. Results: on a scale from 1 to 10, they rated "Daddy's T-Shirt" 10, 9.5, and 9.5! Not too shabby.I also read it to my 4-year-old niece and it quickly became "our little story" during a week-long visit. I'm not sure how many times I read it to her, but she never tired of hearing it. She particularly enjoyed searching for the striped kitty cat that was hiding throughout. [An aside: she will be receiving her own copy soon as a gift, but please don't tell her. :) ]
