A deployment can be emotionally difficult for a military family. It can be predominantly confusing and stressful for children. Daddy's Big Trip is an enjoyable story that aids children in military families to understand why their parent has to go away for a while, and reassure them that they will return. In this story, a little boy named Emory is very unhappy about his dad being deployed for six months, as this is his first time experiencing a deployment. Emory's parents are supportive of his feelings and helping him prepare for deployment. Daddy's Big Trip is intended for children ages 3 - 6 this book is illustrated with large colorful pictures depicting Emory's journey, while short sentences tell about the picture for developing young readers. The artwork is intended to be another part of the learning experience for young readers, teaching children the names of different types of different objects, colors and places in the world around them. The "feeling" words in this book are intended to help young children learn more about some of the feelings they may experience when a parent is deployed, or on a trip away from home.
