Dads are fun!

Daddies Give You Horsey Rides This book lists all the things dads do for their children, from giving them horsey rides to helping them when they are sick. The rhymes here are a lot of fun, and fathers are shown not only doing activities with their children but also household tasks such as cooking and giving baths. The dads in this book are caring and affectionate and all of the best things that dads can be, and the book ends on a wonderful note as well.

Dads in Action!

This review first appeared in the "Ephrata (PA) Review." Energetic animal fathers keep busy in this ode to dads' varied contributions to home and family life. Daddies cook meals, fix things, play with you at the park, teach you to ride a bike, help you when you're sick, give baths, read bedtime stories, and come when you call and are scared at night. "Daddies like to make things work. "They fix the faucets when they drip, "hang the pictures on the wall, "and help you button, tie and zip." The font is set so that the sentences themselves exude energy-by curving and swerving up and down, getting smaller, growing bigger. Rollicking illustrations emphasize the action. One shows Dad in the kitchen. With one hand he's flipping eggs and ham and with the other he's helping kids prepare a salad-while also supervising two children crack eggs into a bowl. Meanwhile, two pots cook (boil over) on back burners. A nice tribute to dads who really become involved in the nitty-gritty of home and family life.

John Bendall-Brunello's charming artwork is a perfect enhancement for Abby Levine's delightful and original anthropomorphic story about how father's can shop, cook, fix leaky faucets, push their little ones in swings, show their kids how to ride a bike, float like a whale, and be their form them whenever a father's help and comfort are needed. Daddies Give You Horsey Rides is a delightful picturebook story and highly recommended for family, school, and community library bookshelves.
