With a thoroughly "young reader friendly" text and watercolor illustrations by writer/artist Francesca Greco, Cyril The Mandrill is an upbeat allegorical tale. Cyril isn't like other monkeys at the zoo; he is a mandrill with unique facial coloring and markings. Everyone wants to see Cyril at the zoo, but other animals make fun of him and his strange face. Yet when winter comes and the animals are moved indoors, the monkeys quickly realize that Cyril's colors are a vibrant reminder of the outside world, and learn to appreciate his differences. A simplistic, childlike quality to the artwork contributes to the endearing quality of this cheerful tale.
