Customize the Ruger 10/22...and upgrade your knowledge

I've read other 10/22 books but this one is the best so far. The book is broken down perfectly starting fairly general about the 10/22 then focusing on each component and fairly recognizing the many major suppliers of replacement or upgrade components. It really helped me with some decisions on upgrades to my "tack-driver". A must have for anyone building or modifying their 10/22.

I wish I had read this book before I bought all this stuff for my 10/22

Excellent for first time owner

I bought my first gun, the 10/22 rifle about a month ago for taking care of red squirrels and other pests on my property. Little did I know, the LIMITLESS possibilities for personalizing this gun. This is a good source book, with good writing and photos on history, customizing and using this gun. It is everything a new 10/22 owner needs to help familiarize themselves with the endless array of products available and how or why to use them. Highly recommended for new owner or anyone that wants to customize their Ruger 10/22. This should be the first accessory you buy.

Review of Customize the Ruger 10/22

This is an excellent book about how to and why you would want to modify your Ruger 10/22. There are several great chapters that discuss ways to customize your ruger including: barrels, trigers, and other details. They also show really good info on how this affects accuracy using a variety of 22 caliber ammo brands. It appears to be the work of a knowledgable author who really does a great job explaining everything. I would recommend this book to any 22 rimfire afficienado.

Everything you need to know about your 10/22

This book has got about everything you want to know about Ruger 10/22's. It is designed more for the Ruger owner who is new to the rifle or modification market, rather than the individual who has already modified a few rifles or who has gunsmithing experience. Although I do own three 10/22's, one of which is called FrankenRuger because the only original part left is the receiver, I found the book to be very informative. Chapter 4 on Factory Models and chapter 13, Sources For Shoppers are excellent. The book is basically divided into two halves. The first half, chapters 1 thru 6, will get you familiar with the Ruger 10/22 function and parts. The second half of the book, chapters 7 thru 13, is about customizing your rifle. Chapter 1, History & Current Versions Of The Ruger 10/22, gives a brief history of this famous rifle along with descriptions of current production models. Chapter 2, Design Characteristics And Concerns, is a discussion of the basic aspects of firearm design and how they relate to aftermarket installed items. Chapter 3, Ammunition, talks about the different types of ammo available and manufactures. The point of this chapter is the same with all guns. Test different manufacturers and loads to see which one your gun shoots best. Chapter 4, Performance Of Factory Models, is very informative. It shows that right out of the box, these guns are fairly accurate. Some of these rifles, using certain ammos, are shooting 1/2" groups at 50 yards. Chapter 5, How The Ruger 10/22 Works, is the gunsmithing chapter. This is disassembly, assembly, parts and how they function. Chapter 6, Some Basic Operations, Tools And Techniques goes right along with gunsmithing. It includes tools and tips you'll need to work on and maintain your rifle. Chapter 7 is Stocks and Chapter 8 is Barrels. For those looking for the definitive answer on which manufacturer is best, it's not in here. What this will tell you is how many hundreds of stocks and barrel are available through the dozens of manufactures. Chapter 9, Fire Control Parts, is about the trigger group and some of the products that are available to improve performance in that area. Includes the bolt stop, extractor, firing pin, trigger assemblies and more. Chapter 10, Sights For The Ruger 10/22, talks about iron sights, scopes, mounts, rings and red dots as well as a closer look at some rimfire scopes. Chapter 11, Testing Some Custom Rifles, is where they compare over a dozen modified 10/22's to see what shoots best. There is also a test on a couple of 10/22's converted to shoot the .17 mach 2 cartridge. Chapter 12, The Ruger 10/22 Magnum, talks about the design and cycling of the magnum round. The difference between the .22 magnum and the .17 magnum and problems with the conversion of rifles. How to upgrade your magnum with stocks, triggers, etc. and some test on modified and converted magnum rifles. Chapter 13, Sources For The 10/22 Shopper, will tell you the hundreds of places to get parts
