The study is being conducted in the Saloum Delta Biosphere Reserve (RBDS) and in the Somone Lagoon. Its aim is to contribute to the improvement of mangrove planting approaches and techniques. The inventory of Rhizophora sp. and Avicennia africana plantations enabled the analysis and interpretation of their success rates by considering both quantitative and qualitative parameters. The processing and analysis of the collected data identified the factors explaining the condition of the plantations and determined the optimal conditions for successful mangrove reforestation. The factors explaining the success of a plantation are primarily the nature of the substrate and the planting technique. Sandy-clay soils were thus identified as the best ecological sites for mangrove reforestation with Rhizophora sp. and Avicennia africana. The planting technique with a spacing of 0.25 m x 0.25 m between Rhizophora sp. seedlings yielded the best results, while planting with seedlings transplanted at 1.5 months yielded the best results for Avicennia africana.
