Colouring tools
You will find that the different types of illustrations lend themselves to different colouring tools. For example, pencils would probably work best with intricate designs with a lot of detailed colouring. Less detailed pages with a lot of black really come to life with textas/markers/gel pens. Pages with a lot of white space can more easily be filled in with pencils, and there's also plenty of room for artistic blending.
