Synopsis:.England in 1925, a young woman in tattered clothes shows up at the door of the home of John and Anna Thorpe begging for food. It is soon discovered that she is unable to hear, speak, read or write. With signs of terrible physical abuse, she is taken into their home and, without knowing her given name, they call her Ellen..Through the difficulty of communication, together, they evolve a method of simple hand signals to 'speak' with her. Little by little, as they learn pieces of her terrifying past, they show her unconditional love, acceptance and safety. In time, her past returns revealing itself in its unimaginable horror, from which she may never return.."CUP" will take you through the mystery of this young woman, her deep fears, violent nightmares, and her amazement at what the world has to offer. As John and Anna teach her of the world beyond her past, they realise that they, and everyone whose lives she has touched, have gained more from her than they could ever give her in return..Follow our Facebook page: "Cup, A Novel" for continuous updates, information and fan interactions. These people were unaware of the author's identities. There were no expectations or requests for their comments:"In this age of instant everything, I can't imagine stories in a serial form that appeared weekly in the newspapers (like those of Dickens). This week I am screaming at this iPad because I want the next chapter now. So, in addition to telling us stories that have high and low emotions pouring from us, you now also teach us the wonderful attribute of patience (which, in my case, is so sorely needed in many areas). As disturbing as this story may be (so much so that a thoroughly physical violent streak rises in my gut), I sincerely thank you for all the thought, effort and love you have put into it in for our enjoyment.".."How beautiful and shows how the heart can change how we not only feel about life, ourselves but all so how we treat others.".."I have been in tears reading this story tonight.""That is so beautiful. ".."Poor, poor girl who ever it was that has caused her to be like this, and it was obviously a man for her to be afraid of them, need the same treatment done to them, she is a very valuable girl. My heart goes out to her.".."Beautiful!".."Another engrossing story of love and acceptance. You are all marvellous.".."Tears come to my eyes.".."She is amazing. "Love the story!!!!!!".."This is all so wonderful!".."If only we could see and hear with such love and excitement that she does.".."She can hear those special people from your lives that you can't, because everyday sounds get in the way. We should all take a look at things from special people like her xx.".."Treasure each and every moment.".."Love it!!!!!!".. "My favourite!!!!!!""Love reading the story!!!!!!""The story is getting great love it!!!!""This is all simply wonderful!""It has brought tears to my eyes xx.""Don't know how you find the strength to write these, they sap me in just the reading.
