I found this book as an undergrad, and it suggested to me that human behavior could be explained scientifically. This book presents what is the result of years of research and reflection by the author, Eliot Chapple (1909-2000). It's been some time since I looked at it, but I believe it is fairly abstract. Nevertheless, because of the subject matter, I remember it being fascinating. His earlier work, The Principles of Anthropology, I recall clearly has numerous examples from Anthropology. His original insights draw from Malinowski's system of needs and Pavolv's essential recognition of conditioning processes. His insights follow into the developments of language and culture and give them concrete foundations. Eugene D'Aquili et al in their book The Spectrum of Ritual refer to Chapple's work.
