Renata is a kind-hearted and intelligent young woman who finds love in Jeronimo. The two meet by chance and fall in love immediately, without knowing they are closely linked by their past. Josefina is a deceitful woman who abducted Renata when she was a baby to profit from her inheritance and provide for her own daughter, Roberta. Both mother and daughter harbor much resentment for Renata and make life miserable for her. Jeronimo believes that his younger brother, Rafael, committed suicide due to a woman's betrayal of his love. He vows to find this woman and avenge his death. Josefina and Roberta make Jeronimo believe that Renata is responsible for the death of his brother, He decides to stay close to her and make her suffer to pay for what she supposedly did.
