Chris "Crystal" Leavitt stands near the entrance of a freeway in Oakland, Ca., holding a sign that reads "Hungry White Trash". He's been a diletante homeless man for several days, wandering the streets in the aftermath of his misadventures: he's been suspended from his job, left his apartment, his girlfriend, his friends and family, even his creative ideas all behind. Worst of all, he's suffered a terrible accident with a mystery at its core. Weed, his dark companion and mentor of licentious behavior, has disappeared, and possibly died. Chris is traumatized, flirting with psychosis, and still coming down from a previous methamphetamine habit. But he is not alone. He has never been alone.
