Cryotherapy is a technique of precise freezing and thawing of undesirable tissue, resulting in cell death and regression. Cryotherapy actually does not imply implementing cold but rather extracting heat. It is effective in reducing oedema, pain, inflammation and recovery time with short term application in orthopedic, abdominal, gynecological and hernia operations. Cryotherapy constricts the blood vessels and thus helps in reduction in swelling and inflammation and also the cold temperature numbs the nerve endings, effectively reducing pain sensation. Cryotherapy in dentistry is gaining its potential usage in the treatment. It is used in treatment of various oral surgical procedures, endodontic treatment and also treatment on vital tooth.
