This presentation by Terry Jones is from 2001, so it is newer than what I learned in school, yet still missing a decade or so of anything found since then.
Even though this is a depressing subject, Terry knows his showmanship and how to make the series quite entertaining. With one exception, Terry Jones in a Speedo on the beach.
Turns out that it is several crusades over a good period. Terry slows down enough so that we get to just what’s happening in each one of the Crusades. He only has two disks to tell his tale on and does it in sections:
“Pilgrims in Arms,” “Jerusalem,” “Jihad,” “Destruction.”
I’m not going to go through a blow-by-blow description of the Crusades, as that’s why you’re buying this series. However, I feel that you will find this unique in its perspective and well worth watching. You may need to watch it several times to pick up and remember the differences between this presentation and what you were taught in school.
There will always be detractors and skeptics of what you are about to see. I am not one of these; however, even if you see history differently, you will want to see what and why Terry Jones made this program.
If you’re lucky enough to see this on DVD, there is a Terry Jones biography that adds credence to this presentation.
