This is a full color edition to compliment the regular black and white edition that is also available. The fjords of Norway are almost legendary for their magnificent landscapes, which combine dramatic skies, snow capped mountains, steep sided gorges and deep water inlets. During the last Ice Age, the fjords were carved by tongues of ice that carved through preexisting river valleys, gouging them into deep gorges. When the ice started to melt around 10,000 years ago and sea levels rose, these gorges were flooded to become today's fjords. The best way to enjoy the 1,500 kilometer or 1,000 mile long coast of Norway is to see it from the deck of a ship. You can choose between local ferries and a variety of cruise ships that vary in luxury from basic to ultra luxurious. This book explores each of the ports of call generally visited by cruise ships. It provides a detailed account of the geography and history and then offers suggestions as to what you should see and where you should dine or shop.
