This is my newest edition for those who plan to cruise the waters of Alaska. I have updated the prior book, added many new details, maps and photos. And I have also expanded restaurant reviews and hotels for those ports where the majority of Alaska cruises begin or terminate. There is a chapter that takes you beyond the normal cruise routes all the way out to the Aleutian Islands, but only for major cruise itineraries. This book does not include the remote destinations used on the adventure cruises. The book concludes with a chapter on visiting Petropavlovsk on the Russian peninsula of Kamchatka, which is part of the repositioning cruises between Asia and Alaska, eastbound in spring and westbound in fall. This is not your ordinary guidebook, but rather a book that introduces you to the geography, history and cultures of coastal Alaska. All recommendations for tours, dining or accommodation are for four and five-star venues. The maps used can be accessed on line through OpenStreetMap.org and expanded on your smart phones or tablets while actually visiting each port.
