Crows Caw The Rising Sun is a first-person narrative that takes place in the Downtown Eastside neighbourhood of Vancouver during the spring/summer of 2019. The book examines mundane, absurd and excessive aspects of local life, behaviors and history through the lens of a flawed individual on the precipice of self realization. The novel is a grim, satirical, dramatic and darkly comedic representation of the psychological process of self acceptance in the context of an individual's existence. Whatever interesting or revelatory aspects of the narrator's experience come to light are just as soon darkened by the individual's own biases and learned behaviors, a shadow that weaves through the narrative as a snake through grass. Imagine a self help book with little to offer.
