Crossroads: Navigating Your Calling and Career

Graduating college. Landing that first job. Considering a job change-or even a career change. When we find ourselves at such crossroads, it is important to stop and reflect before taking the next step. In Crossroads, author Colin Creel seeks to navigate the murky waters of career and calling by looking at the biblical view of calling, recognizing that each of us is here for a reason, and offering practical guidelines on seizing career opportunities. In addition to the author's thoughts, readers will encounter advice from leaders in business, Christian ministry, the arts, and education. Each chapter's "Points to Ponder" encourage readers to go deeper in their thoughts and discussions on the subject of calling and career. Readers are reminded that none of us is here by accident, and there are no accidental occupations. Everyone must pursue the talents and gifts God has afforded them. With original insights from Christian leaders like... Josh McDowell, Steve Arterburn, Max Lucado, Tammy Trent, Mark Price, and others

A thought-provoking read for any Christian in the workplace.

Colin Creel is dean of junior boys at Wesleyan School in Norcross, Georgia. In addition to his role as dean, he also teaches Bible and coaches swimming. Besides this work under review, he has also written Perspectives: A Spiritual Life Guide For Twentysomethings (Orlando, FL: Relevant Books, 2005). Each of us wonders at one time or another, what we will be when we grow up. It seems that when we finally grow up, many of us continue to question the choices we have made in relation to our calling and our career. This book will be a worthwhile resource for both the novice and the seasoned professional, who might be wrestling with these sorts of questions. The book is divided into two sections. Part one considers topics related to calling and part two considers topics related to career. At the start of every chapter there is a short story to illustrate the topic at hand. These topics are further expounded upon with "seasoned advice" from respected Christian leaders like Steve Arterburn, Max Lucado, and others. Each chapter closes with "points to ponder", which includes relevant Bible references and discussion questions. This is the sort of book one may consider reading once a year and still come away with fresh insights in relation to their current life circumstances. I found it to be enlightening for my personal study, but am considering using it for a study with a small group. The "points to ponder" at the close of each chapter make it especially applicable for use in small groups. Whether for personal study or for use in a small group, this book is sure to cause you to consider important questions about your career and calling. I am confident you will be inspired to seek God's leading as you strive to move well beyond your current circumstances. I commend Colin Creel for writing this timely work. I pray that it will be used of God to transform our current and future workforce, so they might be moved away from the doldrums of listlessness and confusion towards a Godly calling and career.

Find Your Calling

God created us for a purpose. Finding our calling, purpose, career - what God wants us to do in our lives is something that all of us wrestle with. Some find out quickly in life, others find out later in life, and some never find out. This book is a wonderful guide and will help direct you to discover your own calling. Scripture based, it is a good book for young adults to read before they decide what career they will choose. It is also good for those who are reexamining their life and searching for a new path to take. I'm giving a copy to each of my "twentysomething" children.

Excellent Christian Career Advice

I found the book to be very helpful and insightful. I'm currently at the point in my life where I'm beginning to "navigate my career and my calling." Now more than ever, I feel I need Christian wisdom guiding my decisions, and this book does just that. It provides thoughtful, well-versed insight into discerning your career path and offers actual advice from successful Christian men and women currently in the business world. If you're trying to figure out how to pair your spiritual walk with your vocation, I highly recommend this book.

Phenomenal & Inspiring! A Must-Read!

This book is absolutely fantastic! The author successfully intertwines sound scriptural advice with personal anecdotes to create an engaging read that is both powerful and influential. Once I started reading it, I literally could not put it down! Above all, I believe that this God-centered wisdom applies to individuals from all ages and walks of life, whether you are a young college graduate searching for that first job or you are simply looking to grasp something "more" from life. The seasoned advice at the end of each chapter also provides keen insight on life lessons from prominent contemporary leaders, and the free study guide I found on Creel's website proves choice as well. I have read dozens of books pertaining to one's calling; however, this book definitely stands alone! I highly recommend it!
