Book Overview

She's never lost a hostage. Surely she can manage to take care of her sister.

FBI special agent Julianna Jameson is a top-notch negotiator, but when her much younger sister, Dottie, needs a place to live while she finishes high school, Julianna's skills will be put to the test.

Former sniper Clay Fox left the army after a tragic incident that he can't get past. Until he can figure out what to do with the rest of his life, he's working as a resource officer at a school. Dottie's school.

When Julianna is called in to negotiate a courtroom hostage situation involving Clay's sister, he's impressed--and, if he's honest, a bit intimidated--by the calm, capable woman with the dark hair and blue eyes, and invites her to speak at the school.

But as the anniversary of a school shooting from Julianna's past approaches, it becomes clear that her perfect record is about to be tested and that Dottie is at risk. If Julianna and Clay can't figure out who's behind the attacks, more innocent people will die--and Dottie is next in line.

"Expertly plotted and relentlessly paced. This high-octane thriller keeps up the momentum through the final page."--Publishers Weekly

Loved it!!! 😍

Another great story by the fabulous Lynette Eason! Loved the realistic characters, and of course the wild action and riveting suspense!! I was glad to get to read about Julianna, a top-notch hostage negotiator in this story, after we were first introduced to her in the previous book, Life Flight. She and her little sister Dottie are hilarious together, and I'm glad to see siblings with a good relationship as a element in this book. I received a paperback copy of this book from the author and her publisher, Baker Book House, as part of her launch team. A positive review was not required, and the thoughts above are my own.

intense suspense

Every time I pick up a Lynette Eason book, I am amazed at the uniqueness of each one. This book is no exception. The premise of a hostage negotiator being pulled into an almost impossible situation is intriguing, as is the heroine herself. The hero of the story is unusual in that he's a school resource officer which isn't typically featured in suspense novels involving law enforcement. Julianna and Clay are both loyal, dependable, and great at their jobs but also suffer from PTSD from their past. I enjoyed getting to know Dottie, Julianna's 18 yo sister, and Reese, Clay's younger sister. These secondary characters tied the plot together nicely and made all the suspense believable and real. Getting the perpetrator's first person perspective was interesting, and the identity of the villain is definitely surprising. Filled with fast-paced action and twists and turns in the plot, the book will keep you on the edge of your seat. Faith thread in the story is solid and romance between Julianna and Clay is just the right amount. Fans of romantic suspense will absolutely adore this story. I received the book from Baker Publishing Group via Interviews & Reviews and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.
