Crossed Destinies: Shadows of the Caribbean: Volume 3
Catherine Marleau has solved a murder in Renaissance France. She's saved innocent women from the witch trials of seventeenth-century Alsace. She thought she understood what the ring asks of her.
Martinique, 1724, teaches her otherwise.
When douard Fontaine is found dead in his own distillery, the plantation's enslaved workers already know who will be blamed - and it isn't the man who did it. C leste, a woman douard had promised to free, has vanished into the forest rather than wait for a trial that was never going to be fair.
Catherine finds the truth fast: the killer is douard's own brother, protecting an inheritance he was about to lose. But in a world where the word of an enslaved woman counts for nothing in a court of law, finding the truth is only the beginning. Getting anyone to listen - and getting C leste somewhere she can finally be free - will take everything Catherine has.
Some injustices can be solved. Others can only be survived. In Shadows of the Caribbean, Catherine learns the difference - and what it costs to keep going anyway.
The third volume in the series following forensic criminologist Catherine Marleau across the centuries, where justice - and its limits - have no expiration date.
