Alex Cross is one to read!

This was a good thriller/mystery/crime story. Characters were believable.

Who Killed Cross's Wife?

I became a James Patterson fan with the movie, "Kiss the Girls," starring Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd. I loved the way the female protagonist was a match for the serial killer villain and how she fought back against him. Upon reading the book, I became a fan of Alex Cross as well. The middle class cop/FBI agent/psychiatrist raising his two kids without their dead mother, but with the help of his grandmother, "Nana-mama," charmed and intrigued me. Since then, I've read a few Patterson novels that were pretty sketchy on plot and characters, but the Alex Cross books hold up pretty well. Maybe it's because I have already formed the characters in my mind, and can fill in any gaps the author leaves out while writing about them, but I think his portrayal of piano-playing, music-loving detective remains true. In "Cross," Alex Cross tries to leave the FBI to spend more time with his family, but once again gets involved in a case to which he can't say no, a serial rapist and killer who MAY have murdered his beloved wife, Maria, ten years earlier. It's an easy, suspenseful read, that doesn't pass through your brain like skim milk, but which doesn't require much heavy lifting either.

The Best Cross Ever!

It is vintage Alex Cross the way that people remember the series as it began. Alex has decided to call his career in the FBI quits and take up private practice and caring for his three kids when a part of his past reappears in the DC area. His old buddy and partner from the DC Police Department John Sampson enlists his help in investigating a series of brutal rapes and murders that take him into confronting the man he has wanted the most: the man who killed his wife Maria over ten years ago. Does Alex get justice or revenge? This is one ride you won't want to get off until it is over. S.L. JP does it again. :)

One great feature about Cross is that you do not have to read the other books in the series to enjoy the story. As usual, JP creates so much suspense and excitement you are finished before you know it and cannot wait for the next one to be released. In Cross, you learn about Alex Cross and what happens to his first wife, Maria, which in turn allows you to understand the evolution of his life. In addition, you meet Michael Sullivan, one of the worst antagonists in Alex Cross's life. Other than feeling slight disappointment when finding out what happened to Maria's killer (because I felt it was just thrown into the story for closure), Cross is an electrifying tale.

James Patterson is at the top of his game

James Patterson never disappoints. This story is about Cross's wife and real love of his life, his first wife Maria. We come to know her better in this book and get a glimpse of Alex's and Maria's life together before she is murdered. Patterson sets up each scene so well that I can see it unfold as I read. This author balances his books between love, murder, and personal relationships. The Candidate: A NovelThe Valentine Edition

Absolutely stupendous...

I know why James Patterson is such a success and so will you when you read Cross, the latest Alex Cross novel. I came late to the series and have struggled to get caught up and I will eventually read the entire backlist. However, whether you're a old Patterson fan or Cross is you're first Patterson book, you're in for a treat. Suspensful, fast paced, and well crafted with little or no fat between the pages, Cross grabs your attention and holds it for the entire story. While Cross may be a little graphic for some readers, certainly the violence isn't gratuitous but an integral and necessary part of the story. And if you're used to Patterson's stories theres nothing here that will surprise you. Alex Cross has decided to put down his career and retire to just being a Dad. This decision doesn't last long however when he's asked to help nab Michael Sullivan, one of the worst serial rapists and professional killers to come a long in a while. Playing a game of "red light green light" Sullivan manages to lull his victims into a false sense of security. After he's finished with them all he has to do is show them pictures of some of his victims, a scalpel and that's that; end of discussion. Cross quickly links his wife's murder 13 years ago to Sullivan. At 393 pages you should be able to handle this book in a weekend if you haven't any interuptions. A terrific and memorable read.
