The biggest challenge for agriculture in the present and future is to meet the food demand of the ever increasing world population. Increasing the production of cereals is, therefore, of paramount importance. Pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum L.] R. Br.) formerly known as (P. americanum L] Leeke) is a variety of the millet family also known as pearl, bulrush, spiked or cat-tail millet. It is the staple food for drier parts of India, particularly the arid and semi-arid regions of India. It is generally grown under rainfed conditions in arid and semi-arid regions of the world.
