Fran Gabino writes about her life with passion - just as she lives it. She gives no apologies and candidly exposes the rawness of life in Superior, WI that begins in 1935. Never a dull moment, Gabino brings you to the famly dinner table, where you can almost smell the food, and then on her first date, where you can feel her budding emotions. Gabino writes with honesty and abandon that give her story integrity.

It's great to read an author with a good attitude. The book reveals the inner workings of family and society back then. It's fresh. It's saucy. It's entertaining as...heck.
Simply Superior!

I am going to reread this very interesting and fun book because I lived those times and I know I will get more out of it the second time. Fran is such an honest and forthright writer that she takes you right into the kitchen and parlor of their home and makes you feel like you are a part of their family. Sometimes sad, sometimes funny, but always so interesting and appealing that I didn't want it to end.
Fran Has Created a Vivid Accounting of Her Past!

I have known the author for many years through our membership with Sons of Norway. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that she took up book writing as I knew she always had a gift for vivid writing as editor of her local lodge's newsletter, the Norrona Gnome. The book is a real treat and Fran writes with a frank honestness that details her growing up in Superior in the 1930s and 1940s. As a decendant of a Norwegian immigrant I can now appreciate how tough if could be during the years after the great Depression. But Fran also wrote with alot of open humor which made the book very interesting that I finished within two days! I now feel I know the author even better than before and knowing her personally, I can see now how she became the person I admire so much today -- one who is not part of the normal mold and makes her own path in life. Keep up the great work and I am looking forward to the sequel "Knocker's Up" as Fran continues to tell her life story with a flair that only Fran can produce!

I thought the subject was handled with a open writing style that is seldom seen in today's book world.
