The portrait of a beautiful girl with tumbling red hair takes on sinister undertones in this unsettling tale from the much-loved, multi-award-winning author.

Jess's mom is furious when she discovers a muddy, football-shaped splodge on Jess's bedroom wall and sends her on a mission to find something to cover it up. Luckily, Jess finds a bargain at her local charity shop: a beautiful portrait of a girl with tumbling red hair, perfectly sized to fit the space.

But once the picture is hanging in her room, Jess is plagued by disturbing nightmares featuring the girl in the portrait--Araminta. At first, Jess's mom and her friend Tina think she's making it all up. They soon change their minds when they experience the painting's strange power for themselves...
